Museum Experience

I love to give the gift of an experience. Many people have too many things, so it is nice to give something to do instead. It can make a nice gift for a family or couple to spend an activity together. In the past I have given a gift certificate to a museum that will cover the cost of admission for the entire family. Museums don't have this option readily available on their website and you may need to call to find out if they even offer it. For example, when I gave a gift to the Chicago Museum of Science + Industry I called and they were able to mail a gift certificate to me for the amount I wanted to give - enough to cover Museum Entry plus one of their package options. However, the Los Angeles County Natural History Museum, does not have an option like this. They do have a Family Membership option for $89 that is good for two adults and up to four children (ages 17 and under). So look into both gift certificates and membership options if this is a gift you think you would like to give.

Here is a little about some of the museums out there, please let me know if you have any experiences giving a museum gift and I will include it!

Los Angeles

LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art) - Kids 17 and under are free with an adult under the NexGen program, just sign up. But this excludes special exhibits. For a Family Membership, all memberships at the Dual level, $110, or above will cover 2 adults and any children 17 and under. Or this could be given to a couple as a gift.

Discovery Cube (Los Angeles or Orange County) - A Family Membership for $99 includes 2 named adults and up to four named children ages 3-17.

Natural History Museum Los Angeles County - Dual membership is $69 for 2 people, Family membership is $89 for 2 adults and up to 4 children (ages 17 and under).

Hammer Museum - Admission is now free due to a generous donation from Erika J. Glazer and Brenda R. Potter!

Zimmer Children's Museum - A Basic Membership is $99 and includes unlimited admission for up to 2 adult family members in the same household and free admission for the children. There is also a 10-Visit-Pass option for $50. This is Good for 10 visits for any guest.

Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles -

Aquarium of the Pacific - A Family membership is $125 and includes one or two adults and all children (age 17 and under) living in the same household.

Museum of Science + Industry Chicago - Individual Membership is $90 for the member plus one guest. Household Membership is $155 and includes 2 adults and all children under 18 in the same home, plus one guest. I was able to call and purchase a gift certificate that included Museum Entry plus one of their special packages for each family member (Explorer 1). This cost was less than the Household Membership and the gift certificate was mailed to me.
